450 stores closing Sports authority announced that they are closing all their stores . This means a lot of employees out of jobs for the company and will negatively affect suppliers. This sure does so a booming economy. Other stores like kohl's and sears have announced store closings |

Isn't it amazing just how rosy and sweet things are! Those unemployment numbers that Obummer gives us are so accurate and convincing. Hillary is promising 4 more years of the same agenda too!

Maybe it was just bad business practices or the execs gave themselves huge salaries and benefits that the company could not absorb. Happens all the time that we see mismanaged companies. I have worked for companies that have done that. We seem to have a lot of large sporting goods chains now anyway and I imagine the competition can be fierce. I know here in the Reno area we have an abundance of sporting goods chains. Maybe with the closing of those stores other companies will do more biz and be able to hire those people that lost their jobs. Maybe they tried to grow too fast. and were not ready to handle the growth. I know for a fact that this does happen because I have worked for companies that have done exactly that! Tried to grow and expand too quickly and even resulted in filing bankruptcy and then taking away from the employees that tried to help and make the companies better with hard work and devotion. And then there are people that would rather buy things from Walmart where things are somewhat cheaper. As robbie565 says about online shopping increasing, the amazon dot com distribution center in the Reno area is growing and adding new employees all the time.

robbie565...I totally agree! Sports Authority recently took over Gart sports here in Reno that was not doing all that well because of competition. Gart was a large store on the super store level, maybe it was too big? But we also have in Reno; Sheel's, Cabela's, Bass Pro Shops, Dick's Sports, Big 5, and also Sportsman's Warehouse and more Walmarts than what we need, and K Mart and several Costco's in the area. Plus numerous specialty shops like sports apparel, ski, golf, cycling and gun shops. Just outside of Reno is the amazon distribution center, which is frequently having job fairs. But I do not know for sure if that is because of business being that good or because of it being a hard place to work and has trouble keeping employees. Rumor has it that amazon is hard to work for but I do not know that for a fact but I do know that amazon is doing well. The last time I was in Gart Sports before Sports Authority they were too pricey for me and I again went in after Sports Authority took over and they were still too pricey. It was a large building with lots of merchandise but with very few customers. The rest of the sporting good stores in the area seem to be doing okay with a steady flow of customers. Maybe Sports Authority were just bad businessmen that bit off more than they could chew. But its easier for some to point fingers in a different direction because they do not realize that most people will go where they get the best deal.
